Christian Amido created his own estate in 1987 in Tavel, on the right bank of the Rhône, from vines inherited from his family. Passion, patience, taste for excellence and a job well done: it is as a true artisan winemaker that Christian Amido builds his vineyard. On nearly 27 hectares, he cultivates characterful wines in AOP Tavel, Lirac and Côtes-du-Rhône Village but also in Vins de Pays. Domaine Amido has always been a true family estate. Christian Amido, sadly died from complications of a brain aneurysm in 2003. The next generation at Domaine Amido arrived, including his daughters Nathalie and Dominique, and his granddaughter Amandine along with her winemaking husband Antoine Berthaud. Together they work the 27 hectares of vines the family owns. The soil for the Tavel vines is primarily two different types: galets roulés (red round rocks commonly found in Gigondas, Chateauneuf-du-Pape and many of the Southern Rhône villages), and flat white stones comprised mainly of schist. The “ Les Galets” title translates to “ The Pebbles “. The exposure of the vineyards is directly south, ensuring that the grapes get plenty of maturity.
