Its history as a winery dates from 1984 when Marc, a boy from the hamlet of La Pépière, created the domain. La Pépière comes from the old French word “pépie” which means thirst. Since its creation, Domaine de la Pépière has kept on growing over the years through the purchase of well-targeted plots, often old and situated on outstanding terroirs. Melon de Bourgogne, the unique grape variety used to produce Muscadet, is enhanced by the complexity of the soil and subsoil of the domain: granite, granodiorite, gneiss and gabbro. The cuvée “LA PEPIE” is produced with grapes coming from various plots. Some grapes come from the vines of Domaine de la Pépière while others come from a fellow winegrower’s vines in conversion to organic farming. These 30 year old vines on average are situated on the slopes of the river Maine.
