Named ‘Discovery of the Year’ in 2021’s Revue des Vins de France, Grégoire Hoppenot installed himself in Fleurie following two years as director of the Chapoutier-owned Maison Trénel in Beaujolais. Grégoire Hoppenot now operates 9ha of vines, mainly the best wines of the village of Fleurie. Grégoire practices organic viticulture and limits the use of sulfur to a minimum while having the talent to produce stable wines, with flawless aromatic precision. The grapes are vinified in whole harvests, in accordance with the traditions of Beaujolais. The wines display a velvety and silky texture, with a natural charm. A real wind of freedom in Beaujolais! Fleurie Origines` is a blend of young vines from two parcels, 'Les Roches' and 'Les Garants'. Les Garants has Fleurie’s infertile, granite-based soils with some visible quartz outcrops. It lies immediately above the pretty village itself and faces south-south-west . Vine density is high and some of the vines are up to 60 years old. The other ingredient in this Origines bottling is from the lieu-dit Les Roches. But apparently most of the fruit is from relatively young vines which he has worked organically since they were planted in the first decade of this century.
Food Pairing: Would pair nicely with a charcuterie board, roasted chicken with vegetables and even a homemade pizza
